At Kids Across Oceans, we believe in the power of connection and the importance of understanding diverse cultures from a young age. Through our exchange program, children participate in letter writing with their peers in Senegal, creating friendships that inspire open-mindedness and respect. Our mission is to connect 2000 students, nurturing a spirit of cooperation and friendship across oceans. Together, we can build a brighter, more inclusive future.
In November 2022, I had the life-changing experience of visiting Senegal and The Gambia, where I connected with remarkable people and witnessed inspiring acts of generosity. One individual, in particular, deeply moved me with his efforts to improve the lives of those in his community—building wells and mosques for villages, and installing solar panels so children can study after dark. When my group asked how we could help, his request was simple: “Send us your used toys.”
This heartfelt request sparked my desire to create a toy and letter exchange program between students in the U.S. and Senegal. With a focus on gently used toys, my aim is to foster cross-cultural connections and provide children in Senegal with high-quality toys while inspiring students in the U.S. to share a piece of their world.
The initiative goes beyond a simple exchange. We are building lasting relationships through continued letter writing between students, encouraging a love for cross-cultural learning, and potentially sparking lifelong friendships. I’m passionate about connecting children from different parts of the world, and I believe in the power of small acts of kindness to bring people together across borders.
Sign your child up today to be a part of this transformative experience. Every letter exchanged is a step towards a world filled with tolerance and understanding.
